MU Earns Consecutive Distinction at DENR R10's 2025 STAR Awards

Misamis University, through its Community Extension Program, was honored with the 2025 Stakeholders Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Award by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 10 on July 2, 2025 at the DENR Compound, Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City. This prestigious recognition was awarded in appreciation of the university’s significant contributions to sustainable development, environmental protection, and conservation of natural resources.

The awarding ceremony served as the highlight of the culmination of DENR Region 10’s month-long celebration of its 38th Founding Anniversary and the Philippine Environment Month in June, according to Executive Order No. 192 and Presidential Proclamation No. 237, series of 1998

The STAR Awards recognized the outstanding efforts and initiatives of partners whose unwavering support has been instrumental in achieving DENR’s environmental goals and in promoting responsible stewardship for the country’s natural heritage.

On behalf of Misamis University and MUCEP Director EnP. Grace V. Villanueva, the award was received by Ms. Goldah Grace D. Sultan, MU Community Extension Facilitator and Faculty. The recognition was presented by DENR 10 key officials led by Dr. Henry A. Adornado (Regional Executive Director); Ma. Theresa J. Allen (ARD for Administrative Services); Ronald D. Gadot (ARD for Technical Services); Reynaldo S. Digamo (EMB Regional Director); and Rodante B. Felina (MGB Regional Director).

This recognition affirms Misamis University’s vital role as a leading higher education institution in the Philippines, providing technical expertise and active participation in various programs and initiatives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). It stands as a testament to the university’s enduring commitment to advancing conservation efforts and supporting the shared mission of building a greener, healthier, and more resilient future.

Special thanks to DENR Misamis Occidental, led by PENR Officer Rey S. Fernandez, CENR Officer Guilry Cabatuan of Oroquieta City, and CENR Officer Dennis A. Juab of Ozamiz City, for their invaluable partnership and unwavering support. Gratitude is also extended to Dr. Karen Belina F. De Leon, University President, for her leadership and continued commitment to the success of the Misamis University Community Extension Program (MUCEP).

This marks the second consecutive year that Misamis University has received a Plaque of Recognition from DENR Region 10, further highlighting its sustained commitment and impactful contributions to environmental stewardship and community engagement.
