#WalangPasok on May 1, 2025, in commemoration of Labor Day
The first Labor Day was held on May 1, 1903, when more than 100,000 workers organized by the Union Obrera Democratica de Filipinas marched to MalacaƱang to demand better wages and working conditions from the American colonial government. This event marked the beginning of the labor movement in the country. In 1908, the Philippine Assembly officially declared May 1 a national holiday.
Labor Day in the Philippines is a special day that recognizes the efforts of workers and the labor movement in fighting for better job conditions and fair treatment. As they represent our voice, the rights and protections of Filipino workers have today become possible.
